Getaway trip to Genting Highland, Pahang, Malaysia
A detox to my hectic life.
03.12.2011 - 04.12.2011
22 °C

My ex-roomate went through hell lots of works without weekends. I guess that's the payment of practicing lawyer. She rang me a day prior, to ask me out but I declined since I've made some arrangements with my other friend. I later change my mind after hearing her cries *exaggerating :P. She seems like she need it most. So here we go, a sudden unplanned trip to somewhere nearer to where i stayed, Genting Highland. I crave for cold places so many times, so when she suggested, I agreed. She picked me up by 9 am and we arrived there in 30 minutes or so. Genting Highland is purely entertainment places consisting of theme park outdoor and indoor, casinos, ice-skating shows, musical, concerts and lots more. It is located on top of the hills, so the weather should be cold. To western people or people who are used of cold weather, I don't think it would be a problem since I did took off my sweater sometime. There will be times though it gets so cold especially at night.
We went there without booking any hotels and it was peak season with school holidays coming along. The original plan was to stay in First World Hotel since it is close to everything and the indoor theme park is in the hotel itself. No rooms available. We walked a bit and found another hotel. We are lucky to grab a room (few people did last minute cancellation, thank god). Most of the places are fully-booked! We stayed in a so-called 4* Theme Park Hotel (trust me, it looks like a 2* hotel with no kettle or any coffee/tea packets). The room was a plain jane with very basic necessities, a bed, 3 chairs and a table. The blanket was brownish, the walls, the carpets and the furniture looks old, without air-conditioner. I accept it half-heartedly since the weather was cold, regardless it should not be an excuse for any 4* hotel. Paid RM260 and it is expensive for a 2* looking hotel. We proceed since it was our last choice.
To be honest, I dont find Genting as magical as proclaim. Everything are expensive there (for example, I can get 3 pieces of nuggets for the normal rate of RM 1 but they sell it for RM 5). My excitement would be more on entering theme parks and shopping malls. Perhaps I was seeking more new things and expect it to be as fun as 3 years back during my last visit. This would be my 4th times so, nothing as surprising as before. The environments and games are still the same. However, my opinions as a regular there can't be counted much. For the 1st time traveller, you most prolly enjoy the place. 2 days 1 night would not be enough so spend at least 3 days 2 nights.
We played games. Some were fun, some were normal. From the thrilling games such as two kinds of roller coasters, Flying Coaster (a must! it's so fun. ride it twice), Solero Shot (they'll bring you up as tall as coconut tree and did a sudden reserved, down! i did felt like i'd no stomach for a moment and my leg got cramps when i started to walk), the Pirate Ship and archery. We did some kiddies games too like a Pirate Train, a train crossing some human built ponds/river, riding boat throughout the river etc. There are so many exciting games we could not explore and mostly involves indoor theme park (some games need to be pay separately than the package offered) due to our limitations of time and the constraint of money since i'm saving for my trip to phuket in january 2012. Will definitely do that whenever I'm back to Genting.

outdoor theme park at night.
We decided to head off to our hotel for an hour or two nap before hitting the malls which open 24 hours, not realizing that our body got so exhausted and I fell asleep from 10 pm to 5.30am. We head home the next day.
P/s: Some few tips before going to Genting Highland that we failed to do and totally forgot about it. If you on a tight budget, do bring your own foods, say packets of maggi, bread or any sneaks. Everything is 3-5 times expensive in Genting Highland and need I say, the so called cheapest foods available there sucks big time.
